Xiaomi was the first to pull off an almost edge-to-edge display with Mi Mix and Samsung one-upping the Chinese smartphone maker with an almost-bezel-less Galaxy S8 and then the Galaxy Note 8 this year. But while most of these taller displays with an 18:9 ratio have been reserved for the premium or flagship smartphone segment, devices from Chinese smartphone brands like Vivo with Vivo V7+, Huawei with Honor 9i and Oppo with Oppo F5 gradually began to provide these as features in the mid-range. OnePlus too is near to it's launch of OnePlus 5T, first phone from Oneplus's stable with 18:9 display.
With that said, Asus fans in India will finally have something new to look forward to. The Asus Pegasus 4S has been announced in China and it looks almost like a Zenfone Zoom S with the addition of a 18:9 display on the front.
Display
The display is a 5.7-inch HD+ (720 x 1,440 pixels) with tiny bezels on the sides and even the top and the bottom. There’s also a 2.5D curved glass on the front, which adds to the premium look. As you may have noticed by now, the fingerprint reader now sits at the rear.
Camera
There’s a dual camera setup at the rear with a 16 MP sensor and an 8 MP sensor. Both camera units feature autofocus and come with an LED flash set up. The front-facing camera is an 8 MP unit.
Memory And Processor
The Pegasus 4S houses a MediaTek 6750T octa-core chipset clocked at 1.5 GHz. The chipset is paired with 3 GB / 4 GB RAM options and will be available with 32 GB and 64 GB internal storage, respectively.
The device features the usual connectivity options including Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, support for 4G LTE bands and more.
Availability
It is currently only available in China, but could come as a re-branded ZenFone smartphone to India, as Asus has yet to announce its first mobile phone with a 18:9 display. The Asus Pegasus 4S will be available in Star Black and Gold finishes. Pricing details in China have not been announced.
